Floyd County Completes Second Rubber-Modified Asphalt Road Project
Floyd County has finished its second technologically advanced roadway project using rubber-modified asphalt. The latest project resurfaced 2.67 miles of Rush Chapel Road, following last year’s half-mile stretch on Terhune Road.
Rubber-modified asphalt is created by mixing recycled rubber from ground-up tires with asphalt, producing a more durable roadway. This project alone recycled 2,450 tires, preventing them from entering the Floyd County landfill. The material not only supports environmental sustainability but also reduces tire wear and rolling resistance — helping drivers save money through longer tire life and improved fuel efficiency.
NWGA Paving completed the specialized work, which was funded through a combination of a $204,055 Solid Waste Trust Fund Grant from the Georgia Environmental Protection Division and a $247,395 match from Floyd County’s 2023 special purpose, local option sales tax (SPLOST).
